About Sunset Preparatory School

 SUNSET PREPARATORY SCHOOL is a private, coed,  non sectarian    school    which    includes   Junior    and    Senior Kindergarten, Grades One through Nine.    Our academic curriculum   includes   courses   set   forth   by   the   Florida-Department of Education as well as those offered by the Boards of Public Instruction in the States of New York, California and Massachusetts.

EDUCATION which meets the “EDUCATIONAL   NEEDS OF -OUR STUDENTS” best describes the Educational Program offered  at  Sunset  Preparatory  School.  A  small   student-teacher ratio and an emphasis on the students’ educational needs provides   positive    success-oriented    learning   in traditional elementary school and middle school settings.   A transitional  skills program is provided  in   the  primary, intermediate and advanced grades for students who have “educational learning gaps.  “Certified Educators and qualified teachers and aides impact a positive learning environment for all students attending Sunset Preparatory School.

OUR JR. AND SR. KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM for boys and girls provides an academic kindergarten environment which helps young students become involved in formal learning and daily living skills. Reading, writing, and arithmetic help our students to develop intellectually, physically and culturally.

OUR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE HIGHLY STRUCTURED offering our students “fine-tuning” of educational skills. Enrichment activities are presented as valuable aids in character building and self-image improvement. Skills Classes are provided at primary, intermediate and advanced grade levels for students who need to close “learning gaps” to attain higher academic performance and positive social adjustment.

Sunset Preparatory School is open for 180 school days a year. Summer school is provided for 8 weeks each summer.

School hours begin at 8:30 a.m. and dismissal for students in Primary. Intermediate and Advanced grades are from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Extended early morning and after school programs are available. Students are responsible for bringing their lunches and for transportation to and from school.

Students  in    grades    5    through    9    may    participate competitively in boys’ and girls’ intramural sports such as baseball and basketball.

Sunset Preparatory School is accredited by the Association of Independent Schools of Florida, an organization which is a charter member of the National Council of Private School Accreditation. Sunset Preparatory School is also recognized by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service as a participant in a program for non-immigrant students.

Application and admission to Sunset Preparatory School is offered WITHOUT REGARD TO RELIGION, RACE OR ETHNIC ORIGIN OF THE STUDENT.  Admission is based on the following:

  2. Previous Academic Records & Prior School History
  3. Interview with Student & Student’s Family

 SUMMER SCHOOL AND RECREATION PROGRAM

 A complete eight week, half-day Summer School program is offered for students who are in need of Summer academic work.  Remedial help is available on a one-to-one basis.  All Summer school classes are taught by Certified Instructors and are supervised by experienced trained personnel.  All pool activities are conducted under the direction of Florida Certified Water Safety Instructors.

A Summer “Fun In The Sun” recreational program is offered to boys and girls, ages 4 through 13, for eleven weeks from June through August.  The Summer recreational program is presented by specialists in Computer Literacy, Ceramics, Sports, and Swimming.  The five acre campus includes a spacious swimming pool, basketball court, and baseball field.  These facilities provide a wholesome setting in which boys and girls may enjoy academic and recreational activities during the Summer months of June, July, and August.
